• This is a contract role for a Senior Character Artist who will be responsible for creating character art assets (models, textures, and shaders) at the highest quality standards.
• Focus on developing highly realistic heads (neutrals) using photogrammetry and photometric data.
• Produce complete character content such as bodies, clothing, armor, hair, and accessories.
• Collaborate with Art Directors and Lead Artists to establish and uphold the art direction for the game.
• Provide guidance to junior artists, enhance team workflows, and streamline the pipeline.
• Support independent and embedded Co-Dev resources, coordinate Ex-Dev deliveries and briefs.
• Experiment with methods to enhance efficiency, workflow, and visual quality in the character art process.
• Aid in setting performance targets and work with other departments to ensure accurate engine implementation.
• Develop documentation (e.g., Confluence) and task management (e.g., JIRA, Flow).
• Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
• Demonstrated ability to create highly realistic heads (neutrals) through photogrammetry and photometric data; portfolio showcasing required.
• Proficient in creating complete character content (bodies, clothing, armor, etc.) at an expert level of quality.
• Collaborate with Art Directors and Lead Artists to establish and maintain the art direction.
• Mentor, guide, and assist other artists and junior team members.
• Support and organize work for Co-Dev and Ex-Dev resources, including creating briefs and integrating deliveries.
• Explore and assess techniques to enhance efficiency, workflow, and visual quality.
• Aid in setting and maintaining performance targets, and collaborate with other departments for engine implementation.
• Create documentation in Confluence (or equivalent) and manage tasks in JIRA/Flow (or equivalent).
• Proficient in Maya (or Max), Substance Painter, ZBrush, Marvelous Designer, and Photoshop.
• Proficient in generating normal maps from high poly models.
• Proficient in PBR (Physically Based Rendering) shaders.
• Proficient in complex node-based shader networks (Unreal Engine, Substance Designer, etc.).
• Familiarity with source control via Perforce (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong foundational skills to work from detailed or loose concept art or reference materials.
• Expert knowledge of human and animal anatomy.
• Proficient in hair creation processes (card and strand based).
• Proficient in organic and hard-surface modeling.
• Proficient in traditional painting skills; ability to create models and shaders from photorealistic to stylized.
• Capable of meeting deadlines under tight schedules and open to receiving guidance and working closely with a team.
