Principal Technical Animator

📋 Description

• Lead the technical animation efforts at the studio by defining the vision for character pipelines, tools, and runtime systems utilizing Unreal animation technology.

• Implement and maintain complex animation systems in Unreal Engine, focusing on Animation Blueprints and Control Rig.

• Explore new techniques and technologies to improve animation quality and workflow efficiency.

• Develop essential tools for the animation team using Python, Unreal Blueprints, and C++.

• Collaborate with engineers to solve technical challenges and ensure the performance of animation systems.

• Mentor and guide the technical animation team, providing clear technical feedback and fostering their skills.

• Establish best practices for the technical animation pipeline to maintain consistency and quality across projects.

• Solve complex animation problems and support the creative ambitions of the animation team within technical constraints.

• Participate in recruitment and interviews as needed.

• Coordinate remotely across timezones with core hours 10am-4pm CET.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of technical animation experience in a senior or lead role.

• Previous involvement in shipping multiple AA+ titles in a technical animation capacity.

• Expertise in Unreal Engine, particularly Animation Blueprints, State Machines, and Control Rig.

• Proficiency in Unreal Blueprints and understanding of their integration with animation systems.

• Knowledge of dynamic asset types, especially Physics and Cloth Assets.

• Experience in developing and maintaining animation pipelines and tools.

• Skills in character rigging and skinning for realistic characters.

• Ability to mentor and lead technical animators effectively.

• Strong communication skills for collaboration with artists and engineers.

• Desirable: Proficiency in Python and/or C++.

• Desirable: Experience with procedural animation techniques.

• Desirable: Passion and expertise in the Action-RPG or Soulslike genre.
