Staff Product Designer, Language and Literature

📋 Description

• Utilize product design and systems thinking to develop and advocate for a distinct Design POV for a newly established ELA team

• Produce comprehensive design assets covering customer journey mapping, wireframing, mockups at different levels of fidelity, and rapid prototyping for hypothesis testing

• Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, User Research, Content, and Partnerships to refine existing products and craft innovative experiences

• Incorporate generative AI functionalities into new experiences that cater to ELA teacher Jobs-to-be-Done

• Lead design aspects of projects with effective project management, rapid iteration, and clear communication of validated reasoning

• Participate in a cross-functional team that upholds design systems; suggest modifications and review colleagues' work

• Foster alignment among diverse teams by presenting concepts to stakeholders across Khan Academy

• Mentor, coach, and develop Design team members and cross-functional collaborators

• Document, present, and disseminate insights internally and within the broader Design community through blogs and industry events

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience within an in-house product design team

• Proficiency in interaction design, prototyping, and information architecture

• Strong visual design capabilities

• Ability to handle both ambiguous, large-scale challenges and well-defined projects simultaneously

• Key contributor in design evaluations, offering and seeking feedback

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences

• Comfortable in dynamic, startup-like environments and engaging with Senior Leadership

• Proactive, action-oriented mindset with a preference for moving quickly

• Skill in establishing robust cross-functional relationships and involving stakeholders in discussions

• Lean approach to product design: rapid learning, efficient shipping, and value-focused experiences

• Ideally: prior knowledge of English Language Arts education and/or experience in designing user-facing content experiences
