• Newsela is seeking a Learning Experience Designer proficient in developing high-quality curricula on a large scale.
• This position necessitates in-depth knowledge of curriculum creation aligned with state frameworks, extensive experience at a reputable core curriculum provider, and a proven track record of providing expert input on assessments, lesson plans, training, and documentation, all at scale.

• Act as the primary subject matter expert on curriculum creation at Newsela.
• Offer expertise in ELA curriculum and content, particularly in middle school and high school settings.
• Collaborate to integrate Newsela's unique content, lessons, and assessments, ensuring materials are culturally responsive, equitable, and accessible to diverse learners.
• Work closely with various teams on curriculum development, instructional design, content creation, and assessment writing, providing insights into state frameworks and best pedagogical practices.
• Develop guidelines for vendors to create lessons and units aligned with specific state frameworks and standards.
• Review and provide detailed feedback on curriculum components, ensuring alignment with state standards and the Newsela approach.
• Create or update teacher-facing materials such as pacing guides and overviews.
• Propose innovative solutions for scaling the review of vendor-created content.
• Ensure all materials comply with state requirements and reflect current pedagogical best practices.
• Collaborate with internal teams managing external vendors to ensure high-quality deliverables that meet Newsela's standards.
• Recruit, train, and supervise contributors to assist in scaling the review of vendor-created materials.
• 5-7 years of progressive experience in curriculum development or instructional design, with a focus on core curriculum providers.
• Demonstrated experience in contributing to ELA curriculum for middle and high school levels, with a deep understanding of state ELA frameworks and standards.
• Extensive experience in reviewing and providing feedback on K-12 ELA assessments, lessons, and activities.
• Proven track record in developing or reviewing training materials and comprehensive documentation for educational products.
• Experience collaborating with teams managing external vendors for content development and localization.
• Strong understanding of pedagogical principles and instructional strategies for ELA and ELD in digital learning environments.
• Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
