• We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Manager to lead the digital experience for Caper Cart, an award-winning AI-powered smart cart by Instacart. Caper aims to revolutionize in-store shopping, helping customers save time and money while supporting grocery retailers' growth.
• As the Senior Design Manager, you will be at the forefront of product innovation, addressing complex design challenges and driving user-centered solutions through a combination of customer insights, technology capabilities, and market trends.
• Your role involves creating visionary experiences, maintaining hands-on execution to set high standards for exceptional experiences and craftsmanship, ultimately elevating Caper into a top-tier product.
• The Design team at Caper oversees hardware, software, and sensory experiences in grocery stores. This position specifically manages product designers responsible for designing the digital Android tablet experience.
• We are seeking a creative problem solver to enhance the Caper cart experiences by pushing the boundaries of digital experiences, refining current carts, and shaping future generations through strategic design, ideation, prototyping, and research.
• Collaboration with Product, Engineering, User Research, and Business Development teams is crucial to bringing Caper's vision to life, gathering customer insights, and translating them into actionable improvements.
• Coaching and developing the careers of product designers, driving hands-on work to ensure excellence in craftsmanship while meeting business needs, are key responsibilities of this role.
• Minimum 10+ years of experience in product design, with 5+ years managing designers.
• Proven track record in delivering innovative consumer hardware products that have a significant impact on customers and business.
• Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design experience on hardware products, from concepts and prototyping to production and launch.
• Strong attention to interaction design, visual aesthetics, motion, content, and overall user experience cohesion.
• Ability to balance visionary thinking with actionable execution to transform user experiences consistently.
• Awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and tools that can shape future solutions.
• Collaboration skills working across disciplines such as product management, engineering, marketing, and business development.
• Comfortable in fast-paced, start-up environments with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in managing and mentoring product designers, fostering growth and development across different career stages.
• Willingness to travel as needed for in-store research and key moments in the product development lifecycle.
