Senior Product Design Manager

📋 Description

• Take the lead in nurturing and expanding a team of product designers, offering guidance, feedback, and professional growth opportunities while fostering a culture of excellence, inquisitiveness, and responsibility.

• Drive the design direction and implementation across critical product areas, ensuring uniformity, user-friendliness, and tangible business and customer benefits.

• Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering executives to shape product strategies and prioritize initiatives that harmonize user requirements with business objectives.

• Set clear standards and success criteria for design projects, advocating for results over outputs and ensuring that design plays an integral role in product decisions.

• Facilitate cross-functional consensus on projects spanning multiple products, harmonizing experiences through shared systems, norms, and principles.

• Promote teamwork across various departments, fostering experimentation, learning, and ongoing enhancement in team collaboration and delivery processes.

• Work alongside the Director of Product Design and colleagues to enhance our operational framework, procedures, and routines to expand high-quality design practices within Upstart.

• Contribute to recruitment and orientation strategies that draw in diverse, exceptional talent and reinforce an inclusive, purpose-driven design ethos.


⛳️ Requirements

• Possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in designing and launching digital products, with at least 3 years leading design teams or overseeing designers in a product development setting.

• Demonstrated track record in guiding end-to-end product design, from strategic planning to implementation, with quantifiable impacts on business and user outcomes.

• Strong portfolio showcasing design leadership, exceptional craftsmanship, and systemic thinking across various product interfaces or ecosystems.

• Experience in managing and nurturing design talent at different career stages, with proof of enhancing team capabilities and influence.

• Thorough understanding of user-centric design processes, interaction design, and data-driven iteration.

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and influence peers, partners, and executives.

• Proficiency in Figma and familiarity with contemporary design and research tools.
