📋 Description

• Pipeworks Studios is currently looking for a skilled and seasoned Design Manager to be part of our studio-wide management team. This role is primarily focused on staff recruitment, employee development, mentorship, and management, and is not project-specific. As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for guiding, supporting, and nurturing a diverse team of game designers at different career levels and specializations, contributing directly to the long-term strength and creative excellence of the Design department.

• This position emphasizes leadership and is perfect for a Senior Game Designer (GD III level or higher) who is transitioning or already transitioned from individual contributor work to focus on people management, team development, and fostering a design-centric culture. Although not directly involved in project delivery, you will work closely with the Design Director and project leadership to help designers excel in both internal and external development settings, addressing challenges that span from process improvement to creative contributions.

• Located in Eugene, Oregon, with the option for full remote work, this role presents a unique opportunity to shape careers, promote growth, and contribute to defining the future generation of design talent at a well-respected, creatively inclined studio.


⛳️ Requirements

• Deep understanding of various design disciplines (such as systems, level, narrative, UI/UX, combat, technical).

• Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop designers at different career stages.

• Excellent communication skills, with the capacity to advocate for staff, provide performance feedback, and build strong relationships of trust.

• Experience collaborating with production, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams.

• Familiarity with design staffing strategies, portfolio development, and recruitment practices.

• Passion for supporting others and fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and creative design culture.

• Potential requirement for occasional travel to affiliated studios or clients, both domestically and internationally.

• Minimum of 10 years of professional game design experience.

• At least 3 released titles, preferably with leadership experience on two or more.

• Comfortable managing distributed and remote teams across different time zones.
