• Create and implement particle and shader effects; seamlessly integrate them into gameplay or cinematics; provide mentorship and feedback; ensure effects meet performance budgets; utilize visual scripting for effect logic.
• Maintain artistic direction and quality: Produce high-quality visual effects technically and artistically suitable for the project's universe; collaborate with the Art Director to define the vision and uphold standards.
• Translate artistic concepts and design documents into prototypes and implement them in real-time VFX.
• Oversee the creation of ambient effects that enhance the atmosphere and bring the world to life.
• Production/Deadline: Deliver work according to specifications, maintain workflows, and meet deadlines; collaborate with the production team; oversee bug fixes and document R&D studies.
• Feedback: Provide daily feedback to enhance visual quality and work with the team to resolve issues.
• Collaboration/Communication: Share knowledge and mentorship; collaborate with technical art and drive R&D initiatives; work with developers from various disciplines to integrate work into the build; collaborate with designers for scripted effects and lighting for atmosphere.
• Perform consistent performance and compensation reviews for staff members; Conduct recruitment projects in collaboration with HR.
• Proven experience as a visual effects artist
• Knowledge of stylized effects
• Shader creation skills
• Experience with particle systems (Niagara, VFX Graph, Houdini)
• Proficiency in Maya or equivalent software
• Excellent communication skills
• Proactive problem-solving abilities
• Must frequently engage with client stakeholders to align FX with animation, combat design, and engineering
• Proactive in identifying performance, readability, and consistency risks in converted legacy resources
• Strong knowledge of real-time stylized visual effects, shader creation, and visual scripting (Blueprint-like systems)
• Ability to balance artistic direction and technical constraints
• Skill in working with design, animation, lighting, and engineering teams to validate effects directly in builds
• Thrive in a tool-focused environment, emphasizing automation, reusability, and scalability
• Adapt old FX assets to modern PBR/shader pipelines without losing the original intent
• Act as a mentor to guide partners and junior FX artists
• Passion for action melee games and understanding the impact of FX on combat feel
• Attentive to performance and gameplay-focused
• Comfortable with creating FX shaders, programming FX logic, and debugging complex real-time effects
• Able to support automation in FX pipelines (Houdini, batch conversion of legacy particle banks)
• Capable of integrating traditional particle/flipbook FX into modern GPU workflows (VFX Graph, internal systems)
• Preferred: AAA shipped title(s); experience with game engines; ability to draw FX textures and flipbook animations
• Proven VFX Artist experience; stylized FX knowledge; shader-building skills; particle systems experience (Niagara, VFX Graph, Houdini); Maya or equivalent; strong communication; proactive problem-solving
